About the Encyclopedia
Several thousands scanty researches as well as literary works have been made and published till
date on our Liberation War. However, unlike those works, the present Encyclopedia in 1o (Ten)
volumes has been compiled by a team of experts and academicians headed by Prof. Harun-or-
Rashid, the eminent political scientist and Vice Chancellor of the National University of
Bangladesh under the aegis of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, the leading learned body and
research organization of the country. Late National Professor Anisuzzaman, National Professor
Rafiqul Islam and other outstanding scholars guided the herculean task of preparing the
Encyclopedia. Once published, this will be a further contribution to the previous magnum opus
created by the Asiatic Society– the Banglapedia in terms of contribution. The Encyclopedia will
be dedicated to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and will come
out in December 2020 as a part of his Birth Centenary Celebration. Hon’ble Prime Minister of
the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, MP has kindly
consented to inaugurate the launching ceremony of the Encyclopedia.
